some days are just like that

So, things didn't work out for me today with P90X. But at least we ironed out the kinks in the system and I think we have found a way to do the workouts in my living room using the projector, a sheet, and some creative maneuvering. Now all we need is a pullup bar!! The diet will have to wait until I can go to the store and get what we need to eat. Who would have thought it would take so much effort to do just that? Well, I guess the timing is off considering the teenager and preteener who HAVE to have new clothes for school. And Josh and Ma who need absolutely everything on their school supply lists, yesterday! Bring on the stress!!!

Last night I was all set up for my second day work out, Plyometrics, when a friend from out of town showed up at my door. Dave was going to try the work out with me. It's probably just as well that we didn't get to it, because the other night when I worked out until 11:45pm, I didn't sleep for another hour or so.

This morning, after the kids cleaned the basement we went down stairs and did it. Holy COW!! I may never move again. My kids (who sat watching from the bench) gave me two thumbs up for trying except for Jake. One thumb- at least he's honest. When he mentioned how much higher they were jumping, I told him they had never given birth to six children so it didn't matter. And I kept going to the end.

My "endure to end prize?" a smoothie Dave made from orange juice, clementines, strawberries, banana and ice. Dave wanted to add egg whites but I was too afraid. YUM. Hope you gals are doing well.

Falling Off the Diet Coke Wagon

I feel compelled to admit to succumbing to weakness...falling off the wagon...giving in to temptation...whatever you want to call it...I had a Diet Coke!!! There...I've now admitted it. I feel better...on the road to redemption (well, maybe after I get home from this business trip;-)).

Soda of any kind is explicitly forbidden on the P90X program. Despite the fact that we're waiting until next week to go full-throttle on the diet, this of all the P90X nutrition rules I decided I could do from Day One...alas...

It was the 7 am meeting that did me in. By 11 the eyelids were drooping and the yawns were unstoppable so in the service of my clients/my job/my sanity, I decided I NEEDED a Diet Coke. Of course it worked perfectly...by noon I was raring to go, illuminating my clients with keen new insights and unstoppable enthusiasm for their transformation journey (okay, maybe a tad bit of an exaggeration but they were happy and my eyes remained open throughout the meetings;-)).

And, if that weren't enough of a failure...I find out that while I was doing Cardio X yesterday in my hotel room, my fellow P90Xers tackled Plyo!!! Okay...no more Diet Cokes and no more Cardio X instead of Plyo...it's water only and Plyometrics every tuesday from now on!

As for today's workout, I was so happy to reunite with my beloved Shoulders and Arms...truly one of my favorite P90X workouts. Again...in the hotel room, with the bands...not bad but I prefer the weights.

Yoga tomorrow...I LOVE it...and I HATE it...should be a trip in the hotel;-)!

P88x

2 days down... 88 days to go! Melinda, Carolyn, and I did the Chest and Back workout on Monday, and Plyometrics today. What amazing workouts! We don't have our pull-up bars yet, so I can't say we got the full benefits of the workout... but I'm feeling the burn anyway. Plyometrics was actually fun today. Melinda is amazing- that woman can jump!

We have a new recruit today. Judianne wants to join us. She'll be showing up for our workout tomorrow morning at 8 am. Erin, do you mind sending her an invitation to join our blog?

As far as nutrition, I had a chocolate & peanut butter protein shake after our workout this morning. Lunch was not quite as nutritious... that's what I get for eating kid food (pbj's, doritos, and cheese sticks). I loved my Wendy's Southwestern Salad without any dressing. It tasted great, but I'm not sure how it fit into the diet. I'm just livin' life until Monday.

Day One...Can I get a Do-Over?

So the first workout for P90X was Chest and Back...not a good start for a girl with a bad back that started acting up over the weekend. So...didn't make it through. But, I'm looking forward to a better Day Two...Cardio X will be much better and I'm hoping it will even help my back to loosen up.

As for the diet...well...I think I did okay for Day One especially given that we agreed to use this first week to get our menus organized. I didn't get up early enough to pack a lunch for the office and given the very unhealthy options available nearby I decided to try a protein bar from the drug store. I got a Special K granola bar with 10g of protein. The verdict: not bad...but not a sufficient meal replacement either. I was HUNGRY when I got home from work so made a burrito with fat-free refried beans, lettuce, tomatoe, low-fat cheese and a little bit of sour cream. It hit the spot along with some multigrain chips and salsa but I probably would have made a better dinner choice if I had planned better for earlier in the day...too many carbs! Oh well...tomorrow is a new day and hopefully I'll do better.

The First Leaf

Well...at least the first leaf we're turning together.

Our bodies are the first things we give to our children...some moms are fortunate to get theirs back shortly after giving birth none the worse for the wear. Others...get them back a little fuller...in all the right places...ahem...

And then there's the rest of us (the most of us, really) whose pre pregnancy and childbirth bodies have been replaced by something we not only don't recognize but aren't quite sure what to do with. The first leaf we'll be turning together is about connecting or reconnecting with our bodies...inside and out. Okay, okay, yes...that's just a PC way of saying that we're starting a diet and exercise program. Of course, these mama's don't mess around and we're not starting just any program...we're setting the bar high (literally!) and doing the P90X program. Yes...like the infomercial..."in just an hour a day for 90 days, you too can be totally ripped and in the best shape of your lives".

We're counting on being in the best shape of our lives...we'll see about the "totally ripped" part.

We start tomorrow....bring it!
